Helpful Tips:

  1. Use green macrame cord to create a traditional looking wreath.
  2. This macrame Christmas wreath is a great way to use up scrap pieces of cord!

Close up of a green macrame wreath ornamentWhat supplies did you use for the green wreath?

We made the green macrame wreath using the exact same method in the tutorial above. Except we used green macrame cord and a green pipe cleaner instead of the light colour. (And it gave it a completely different look!)

To decorate our green wreath, we added a 10mm wooden bead onto the ornament hanger and tied a knot above it to keep it in place. We also added small sparkly pom poms (6mm) to decorate our wreath using a glue gun to attach them.

What size macrame cord to make a macrame Christmas wreath?

We used a 3mm natural macrame cord to make our macrame wreaths. You could also use 2mm, or even a thicker cord, like 5 mm.

If you use a thinner cord you’ll need more 5 inch long strands to fill in the wreath, whereas if you use a thicker cord you’ll need fewer.

Where to buy macrame cord to make macrame ornaments?

Your local craft store should have a small selection of macrame cord to choose from. If they don’t have the specific cord you’re looking for, try looking on Amazon or Etsy.

You can also Google search “macrame cord (your city here)” and find local stores or websites based in your area that sell a larger selection of cord and accessories.

Can I make a macrame Christmas wreath without a pipe cleaner?

Yes, there are a few ways you can make a macrame Christmas wreath without a pipe cleaner. You can use a wood ring, or a metal ring, as the center of the wreath.

Or you can twist together a circle out of wire. If you use a wire ring or a metal ring, you may want to cover it with masking tape or another tape that matches your string. For example, use floral tape or green painter’s tape if you’re going to use green macrame cord.

What else can I make with macrame cord?

If you’re looking to make another ornament, try macrame gnomes or a macrame feather. We’ll also be posting a tutorial soon for the macrame Christmas tree that you can see in photos above.

You can even make a macrame heart, where the technique is almost the same as this wreath! Be sure to check out all of our easy and beginner friendly macrame tutorials for even more options.
