Pom Pom Bunny
It’s SO EASY to make an adorable pom pom bunny! These bunnies are super soft and fluffy, and they’re so fun to play with! Use basic supplies, like cardstock and yarn, to make this craft that’s perfect for the Easter season.
We loved making our pom pom hedgehogs last year, and we wanted to make a similar craft for spring! These bunnies are really simple to make, and there’s no special tools needed to make the pom pom. Plus you can use our free, printable template for the bunny’s body!

How to Make a Pom Pom Bunny
Materials:
- FREE Printable Bunny template
- Cardstock
- Pastel yarn(thicker yarn preferred)
- Googly eye(10 mm)
- Glue tape
- Pom pom(10 mm)

Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Cut out the bunny template
- Print out the bunny template on coloured cardstock and cut it out.
- Make two cuts on the sides of the bunny where shown on the template.
Step 3: Make the pom pom
- Cut a 14 inch piece of yarn and place it between your ring and middle finger.
- Now wrap the yarn around all four of your fingers 100 times. Then cut the yarn off from the ball.
- Tie the 14 inch yarn piece around the wrapped yarn, then carefully slide the yarn off your fingers.Pull the tied yarn tightly around the bundle. Tie it in a double knot around the center of the yarn.
- Using sharp scissors (or even fabric scissors if you have them) cut through the loops of yarn to create a rough pom pom shape.
- Give the pom pom a “haircut”, trimming and shaping it until it’s a nice, even ball shape.Make sure you hold the longer pieces of yarn (from the 14 inch piece) so you don’t accidentally cut them.
Step 4: Connect the pom pom to the bunny and add its face
- Place the pom pom on the cardstock bunny and slide the long pieces of yarn through the slits in the side.Pull the yarn tight, so the pom pom is right against the cardstock, and tie the yarn in a double knot. Cut off any extra yarn.
- Attach a pom pom nose and a googly eye to the front of the bunny using glue tape.
- Your pom pom bunny is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- If you use thicker, chunky yarn you can wrap the yarn around your fingers fewer times. Similarly, you’ll have to wrap thinner yarn around your fingers more times to create a full pom pom.
- You can also print the bunny template onto regular printer paper, cut it out, and trace it onto cardstock or cardboard!

Do you need a pom pom maker to make this pom pom bunny?
No need to buy any special tools to make a pom pom! We like to avoid using extra gadgets if possible, and you can make an awesome pom pom just with your hand!
If you like to keep both hands free, you can definitely buy a plastic pom pom maker from a craft store like Michaels or on Amazon. Or you can cut a rectangle out of cardboard and wrap your yarn around the cardboard instead of your fingers.
What type of yarn works best to make these pom pom bunnies?
We like using acrylic yarn, since it’s inexpensive and easy to work with. For these pom pom bunnies we used the Craft Smart yarn from Michaels in pastel colours. Chunky yarn is another great option, because you can make really full pom poms using less yarn.
You can also use cotton yarn to make a pom pom bunny. The ends of the cotton yarn come apart a little bit, which gives the bunnies a really fuzzy look.
Do I have to use the bunny template?
The bunny template makes this pom pom craft super easy, but you definitely don’t have to use it. Feel free to get creative and draw your own bunny outline!
Use white, gray, or brown yarn to make a natural coloured pom pom bunny, or have fun with pastel colours, perfect for spring. Either way these bunnies will make a super cute addition to your Easter decor!
