Wooden Spoon Halloween Crafts

These Halloween wooden spoons are so cute! I love that you can make something so fun from dollar store supplies. These hand painted spoons look great as Halloween decorations in a mason jar (painted black, naturally) – but they also make great puppets or storytime props.

We made a ghost, jack-o-lantern, vampire, black cat, Frankenstein, and a spoon that says “BOO”. We tried to keep our Halloween spoon decorations more on the friendly side, but you can easily make them as creepy or cute as you want!

Step 2: Paint jack-o-lantern spoon

  • Use the orange paint and a large brush to paint most of the spoon. You can leave the bottom few inches unpainted, or you can go back and paint the whole spoon once the top is dry.

  • Once the orange paint is dry (it shouldn’t take more than 15-20 minutes), use a pencil to draw a jack-o-lantern face on the spoon. We drew the face on the flat back of the spoon. Make two larger triangles for eyes, a small one for a nose, and a nice toothy jack-o-lantern grin.

  • Your Halloween wooden spoons are complete!

Helpful Tip:

If you’re painting multiple spoons, paint the base layer of paint on each first. By the time you’re finished painting the last one, you can start drawing the face on the first!Set the spoons to dry on parchment paper with the back of the spoon facing up. You can also stick them in a foam block to dry.
