Pine Cone Spider Craft
This cute and creepy pine cone spider craft is SO EASY to make! It’s such a fun Halloween craft, made with simple dollar store supplies. Use a pine cone for the spider’s body and pipe cleaners for its furry legs!

How to Make a Pine Cone Spider
Materials:
- 4Pipe cleaners(12 inch, black, brown, or other colour)
- Pinecone
- Googly eyes

Step 1: Find what you need
- Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Attach the pipe cleaner legs
- Gather 4 pipe cleaners in the same colour.We used black pipe cleaners for this spider, and brown for some of our others, but you could also use purple, orange, green, or whatever colour you’d like!
- Bend the pipe cleaners in half in a ‘V’ shape. You can hold them together and do this, or bend each one individually.
- Grab one of the pipe cleaners and put the center point in-between the tips of the pine cone, close to the end.Pull the edges of the pipe cleaner down, pushing the center down as far as it will go. Make sure the point of the ‘V’ stays in the middle of the pinecone.
- Add a second pipe cleaner in the same way, to the “row” above the first pipe cleaner.
- Repeat for the next two pipe cleaners. You’ve just added the spider’s legs!
Step 3: Glue and adjust the legs
- Add a generous amount of hot glue on top of each pipe cleaner, in-between the pinecone tips.Hold the pipe cleaner in place while the glue hardens and allow the glue to drip down into the crevices of the pinecone.
- Once the glue is dry, flip the pinecone over so the glued part is at the bottom.Bend the pipe cleaners down so that the top part of the leg is straight out from the body, and the rest of the leg goes down in an upside down “L” shape.
- Trim the ends of the legs, if necessary, to make them the same length.
Step 4: Add googly eyes to the pine cone spider
- Add hot glue to the back of a googly eye.
- Place the first googly eye onto the large part of the pinecone.
- Repeat, adding as many different eyes as you’d like. We added 7 googly eyes to this spider in 2 different sizes.
- Your pine cone spider craft is complete!
Helpful Tip:
- Make sure the glued pipe cleaners are at the bottom of the spider. The pipe cleaners will help support the spider’s body!
Where can I find pinecones to make this pine cone spider craft?
Try going for a nature walk around your neighbourhood to find pine cones that have fallen to the ground. If you use these, be sure to clean off the dirt and debris.
We recommend rinsing pinecones with soap and water and then letting them air dry. You can also put them in a 250 F oven for 1 to 2 hours, turning them at least once.

What glue is best for making pine cone spiders?
We like using a glue gun for pine cone crafts, since it sticks well and dries so quickly. Kids can use a low temperature glue gun, or they can use tacky glue. Tacky glue also sticks well, but it takes a lot longer to dry, making it harder to keep the legs in place.
Why won’t my pine cone spider stand up?
Pine cone spiders made from larger pine cones may have issues with their bodies sinking to the ground. We think they look cool either way, but if you want your spider to stand on its legs, use a lighter, smaller pinecone.
You can also try adjusting the spider’s legs. Sometimes the way the pipe cleaners are bent can affect how the spider stands, or doesn’t stand.
