Helpful Tips:

  1. If glue gets on top of any stones while you’re making your rhinestone ornaments, wait 24 hours for the stones to dry in place. Then use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to gently remove the residue.
  2. The rhinestones can be repositioned when they’re first added to the ornament, while the glue is still wet. Simply nudge them with the wax pencil or use a pair of craft tweezers to move them into place.
  3. Add random colours of rhinestones, or plan out a pattern for the ornament. You can even write out small words like “JOY” or “MERRY” with black rhinestones.

What type of glue can I use for my rhinestone Christmas ornaments?

We used B7000 glue on our rhinestone ornament. It’s an all-purpose, self-leveling adhesive, similar to E6000. Other glues that also work for making Christmas ornaments with rhinestones are Gem-Tac and Liquid Fusion. Both are fast-drying, UV resistant, and low odor.

What kind of rhinestones should I use for rhinestone ornaments?

We recommend buying a multi-pack of rhinestones that has different sizes in it. We used a variety of sizes of flatback rhinestones, from ss6 to ss30.

Having stones of different sizes makes it easier to cover the whole ornament with fewer gaps showing.

Will any Christmas ball ornament work for this rhinestone craft?

We recommend using a smooth surfaced ball ornament, without any glitter or ridges, to make your DIY rhinestone ornaments.  You can use either a clear or coloured ornament.

The smooth surface makes it easier for the rhinestones to stick, and for them to fit together tightly.
