Step 3

Make a Mini Sukkah

  1. Place 28 wooden craft sticks on a flat surface. Push them together in a straight line with no gaps. Cut 8 x 1cm wide strips from the length of a self-adhesive felt sheet.
Stick a felt strip across the wooden sticks, 2-3 cm from the top. Add an extra small strip at the end to cover the last few sticks. Trim off any overhanging felt at the end. Stick another strip along the sticks in the same way 2-3cm from the bottom, with an extra piece at the end. This side faces inside the hut.
  2. Turn the wooden sticks over, held together with the felt strips. Add more strips across the wooden sticks, this time, cut the strips after 8 sticks, then after 12 sticks. This allows the outside of the Sukkah to be folded into the hut shape.
There should be 8 sticks along both side sections and 12 sticks along the back.
  3. Glue 5 or 6 willow branches across the top of the hut. Cut out some leaves from green card. Lightly brush a darker green over the leaves to add texture then glue them onto the roof.
  4. Decorate the front of the Sukkah with fruit and leaves cut out from coloured card. Thread beads onto elastic to hang across the top, tie the ends around the branches on the roof. Cut a small piece of hessian to fit inside the Sukkah
  5. Glue the cut out hands on top. To make sleeves, cut 2 pieces of self-adhesive felt 7cm x 5cm.
