How do I use this sugar scrub?

You can use sugar scrub 1 to 2 times a week (3 if you have really oily skin). Use it in the shower after you’ve already used soap or body wash.

Use your fingertips to apply the sugar scrub in a circular motion with medium pressure. You can rinse the sugar off right away, or let it sit for a few minutes for extra hydration.

Rinse off the sugar scrub with warm water and pat your skin dry after leaving the shower. Then apply a moisturizing body lotion as a final protection for your newly exfoliated skin.

How long does this sugar scrub last?

If you store the sugar scrub in an airtight container it should be good for 2 to 3 months. All of the ingredients for this sugar scrub recipe have a long shelf life, so you can keep a larger batch in the fridge for at least 6 months.

If you keep some in the fridge, make sure to warm the sugar scrub to room temperature before using it.

What type of sugar can be used in homemade sugar scrub?

Most homemade sugar scrubs use regular white granulated sugar. This sugar has the perfect texture to exfoliate your skin without being too rough. But if you have sensitive skin you can make your sugar scrub with superfine or caster sugar.

Brown sugar is also a good choice for a homemade sugar scrub. It’s softer than regular sugar, and is naturally moisturizing. Brown sugar will add an extra caramel note to your sugar scrubs.

You can also use turbinado, or raw, sugar in a sugar scrub recipe – but keep in mind that the grains are very coarse, and are therefore tougher on your skin. Try using half raw and half regular sugar in the recipe for some extra exfoliation.

Can I use a different oil in this sugar scrub recipe?

Coconut oil is a great choice for sugar scrub recipes – it absorbs easily, is incredibly moisturizing, and it smells amazing.

But you can use pretty much any oil you want. There’s so many to choose from, each with their own natural benefits. You can use avocado, jojoba, apricot, sweet almond, grapeseed, or even extra virgin olive oil in a sugar scrub.
